Emily in rentals??

Love her or loathe her, if you're a woman who is even remotely in to fashion, you know of Emily in Paris. And whilst her work, friends and love life based decisions may be heavily questionable, there is no doubt that this girl has great style. She first entered our lives during the very bleak and heavy year that was 2020, and boy was she needed. Her bright colour palette, fun silhouettes and fantastic accessorising was the light relief, that apparently all 58 million households of us needed to break up the heaviness and that, let's be honest, we longed for the occasion to trial.

Four seasons in and Emily and her crew have yet again entered our lives this weekend. Having binge watched as part of an annual tradition with my sister-in-law last night, I can officially say her latest selection of outfits did not disappoint. Huge kudos to the costume team responsible! So as you can probably gather, whilst I fall in to the 'love' camp when it comes to this cheese-fest of a show and generally have very few bad things to say about it, the reason Emily is the topic of our latest blog, is the concern her ever rotating and never repeating wardrobe causes me.

Whilst the show never addresses where Emily sources her outfits (nor how on earth she affords them on a marketing salary or where the hell she stores it all, living in a tiny apartment in central Paris!); there is the worry that it may normalise and encourage the wear once, frivolous lifestyle that is having such a significantly negative impact on our environment. And so still wanting to view this show through my rose-tinted glasses, I choose to believe Emily is already part of our fantastic rental revolution. I mean it's the only sensible way all those mysteries are resolved, right!?

So if you're anything like me and after binge watching a series of Emily in Paris, you have the urge to spend hours on your phone looking for that latest cobalt matching pant suit, the monochrome jumpsuit of dreams or the floral emerald playsuit. Then stop. Wait. And re-direct yourself to one of the many fabulous rental platforms available to you and #jointherentalrevolution.
Save your poor wallet and the poor planet from the moment when you realise, you're actually #wendyinwarwick and those purchases will never really see more than one novelty wear.
